The Ginger Bistro
Tucked away on Great Victoria Street in the heart of Belfast, The Ginger Bistro offers one of those rare dining experiences that feel both intimate and full of character. From the moment you walk through the door, the warm tones, stylish yet relaxed décor, and subtle hum of conversation set the tone for a meal that goes beyond just satisfying hunger-it leaves an impression.
While it’s a go-to for lunch and dinner, it’s the menu that truly steals the spotlight. The Ginger Bistro’s culinary lineup feels carefully curated yet full of personality. One of the standout starters you’ll want to bookmark is the Ginger’s Squid, served with a punchy garlic mayo and a sweet chilli dip. It’s crispy, tender, and packs a lot of flavor into one small plate. If you’re leaning toward something more refined, the Fried Tiger Prawns with carrot and fennel salad, pineapple salsa, and soy-pickled ginger dressing are a masterclass in balance-fresh, tangy, and savory all at once.
Main dishes at The Ginger Bistro showcase thoughtful pairings and a devotion to quality ingredients. The 10 oz Sirloin Steak comes perfectly charred and juicy, while the Pork Belly is melt-in-your-mouth tender with a golden, crispy skin that hits all the right notes. For seafood lovers, the Pan-Seared Sea Bass is a crowd favorite, often praised for its crisp skin and delicate flakiness. Vegetarians aren’t left out either-the Charred Tenderstem Broccoli with Squash makes a strong case for going meatless.
And then there are the desserts. It’s tough not to talk about the Sticky Toffee Pudding-indulgent, rich, served warm with silky toffee sauce and a scoop of ice cream that melts into every bite. Equally decadent is the Banana Tarte Tatin, elevated with salted caramel ice cream and pistachio praline, and the Classic Crème Brulee with raspberry compote that delivers just the right crackle on top. Whether you’re a sweet-tooth traditionalist or a flavor explorer, dessert here is non-negotiable.
Drinks-wise, The Ginger Bistro doesn’t disappoint. With a great wine list, a thoughtfully crafted cocktail menu, and even an impressive selection of beer and spirits, you can pair your meal to match your mood. The Espresso Martini is a standout if you're in the mood for a smooth and slightly bitter finish, while the bar team also whips up a range of vibrant cocktails for every palate. Their tea and coffee offerings are just as curated, perfect for those lingering over conversation after dessert.
Part of what makes The Ginger Bistro such a gem is its commitment to accessibility and inclusivity. With a wheelchair-accessible entrance, seating, and toilet facilities, the space is designed to be enjoyed by everyone. There's also a focus on healthy options, vegetarian and vegan dishes, ensuring there's something for every diet and preference.
What truly sets this spot apart is its vibe-stylish yet unfussy, professional but never pretentious. Whether you’re a solo diner out for a quiet evening, a couple looking for a date-night destination, or a group of friends gathering over cocktails and shared plates, The Ginger Bistro hits the mark with its thoughtful atmosphere and consistently excellent food.
It’s not hard to see why locals love it and visitors often find their way back. The Ginger Bistro manages to take familiar dishes and reimagine them in a way that feels both modern and comforting. So, if you’re in Belfast and looking for a dining experience that combines skillful cooking with genuine hospitality, this is one place you’ll want to have on your radar.

Only wish we didn’t get so full from all the amazing food and cocktails and had room for desert. Excellent selections and delicious dishes. The fresh and tasty ingredients made our time at Ginger Bistro delightful. We had Espresso Martinis, the ginger squid, cauliflower, French onion soup, risotto, and more.
Tasty food, kind stuff. Michael was accommodating and checking up on. Easy walk in, no need to wait or book, centrally located and convenient if in one of the hotels nearby.
This has to be the best bistro on the island of Ireland. It gets better every time we visit. Incredible food and fantastic team. Congratulations.

From start to finish the guys made us feel welcome and we had some great chats. The food was absolutely amazing and they were playing some absolute classics from the bar. Can't recommend The Ginger Bistro highly enough.
